When Megan Kwan (CFA’27) first arrived on BU’s campus, she had never heard of the First-Year Innovation Fellowship. Today, Megan is the founder of her own startup that reduces art material waste.

You may be left wondering: what’s the secret to Megan’s startup success?

According to Megan, the key was saying yes to every opportunity that came her way. When an Innovate@BU mentor recognized Megan’s passion for making an impact and encouraged her to apply to the First-Year Innovation Fellowship, Megan submitted her application that same night. Upon her acceptance into the First-Year Innovation Fellowship cohort, Megan discovered a new community of like-minded peers and was excited to start innovating solutions to issues in the art world.

Megan’s dedicated work and innovative thinking in the First-Year Innovation Fellowship Program resulted in the founding of 4Artists, Megan’s very own non-profit startup which aims to reduce, reuse, reclaim, and reimagine art materials in an effort to reduce waste amongst CFA students.

Megan’s biggest piece of advice to Freshmen at BU is to keep saying yes, because you might find opportunity where you least expect it. All experience is good experience when it comes to developing your entrepreneurial mindset, and Megan emphasizes how much she learned about the ins and outs of starting a business, networking, money management, and more, during her time in FYIF.

From the First-Year Innovation Fellowship to the establishment of her own venture, Megan’s entrepreneurial journey is just getting started, and we can’t wait to see what she’ll say yes to next.
