The inaugural research study of IROI consisted of a 30-minute survey of 700 women of reproductive age, 18-45 years, to determine how social factors influence their health status, lifestyle habits, and health care seeking behavior. Women were interviewed because they are most knowledgeable about familial health and are the primary caregiver for children. Understanding and improving the health of women will allow for a significant impact on the community as a whole.<\/p>\n

Information was collected on the following topics:<\/p>\n

  • Demographics (i.e. age, education, income, residency)<\/li>\n
  • Physical and mental health status<\/li>\n
  • Disease history<\/li>\n
  • Lifestyle choices (i.e. smoking, tobacco use, hours of sleep)<\/li>\n
  • Family composition<\/li>\n
  • Reproductive history<\/li>\n
  • Healthcare access<\/li>\n
  • Healthcare seeking behavior<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The data gathered will guide the development of further research and outreach programs, such as “Methods of Improving Utilization of Health Insurance Programs.” Additionally, these findings will be a valuable guide to local health institutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
