{"id":18,"date":"2020-12-16T16:59:25","date_gmt":"2020-12-16T21:59:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/imap\/?page_id=18"},"modified":"2025-03-06T09:33:01","modified_gmt":"2025-03-06T14:33:01","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/imap\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span>Capitalism has entered a new era in which the impacts of business and finance are measured by more than simply earnings and shareholder returns.<\/span><span> Alongside these traditional financial metrics<\/span><span>, <\/span><strong>sustainability has been increasingly factored in through<\/strong><span><strong> environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance attributes<\/strong>. More than 5,000 asset owners and managers overseeing greater than $89 trillion in assets have signed the<\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unpri.org\/pri\/what-are-the-principles-for-responsible-investment\"> United Nations\u2019 Principles for Responsible Investment<\/a> (UN PRI).<\/span><span> <\/span><span>Additionally, <\/span><span>an entirely new group of investment vehicles, known as Impact Funds, has quickly reached over $1 trillion in assets under management. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span>As this new form of stakeholder capitalism has emerged, <strong>measurement systems, standards, and metrics for assessing ESG and sustainability have proliferated<\/strong>. Globally, o<\/span><span>ver <\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sustainability.com\/globalassets\/sustainability.com\/thinking\/pdfs\/sustainability-ratetheraters2020-report.pdf\">600 ESG ratings and rankings<\/a> now populate the ESG reporting landscape.
