Cutler J. Cleveland, Associate Director with the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS) and a P<\/span>rofessor of Earth & Environment<\/a>, conducts research and teaching focused on the connection among energy, climate change, and sustainability. He is the founder and co-leader of Visualizing Energy<\/a>, an open-access, interdisciplinary science communication project that aims to increase actionable knowledge about a sustainable and just energy transition.<\/p>\n

He recently served as the principal investigator for Carbon Free Boston<\/em><\/a>, a technical assessment of strategies to assist the City of Boston in reaching carbon neutrality by 2050. He currently serves on the Advisory Board for Project Drawdown<\/a> and is an Affiliated Researcher of the Center for Antiracist Research<\/a>. Dr. Cleveland is author and editor of reference works on energy that include the\u00a0Encyclopedia of Energy<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>winner of an\u00a0American Library Association award; the Dictionary of Energy<\/em><\/a>; and the\u00a0Handbook of Energy<\/a><\/em>. <\/em>Dr. Cleveland is the recipient of the\u00a0Adelman-Frankel Award<\/a>\u00a0from the United\u00a0States Association of Energy Economics for \u201cunique and innovative contributions to the field of energy economics.\u201d He is co-author of\u00a0Environmental Science<\/em><\/a>,<\/em> the Web\u2019s first electronic textbook on the subject. He has been a consultant to numerous private and public organizations, including the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development, the Energy Information Administration, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.<\/p>\n
