Uday Pal, affiliated faculty with the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Boston University’s College of Engineering.

Research and Professional Experience
He has six years of industrial and thirty-two years of academic research experience in high-temperature chemical and electrochemical processes, including energy conversion, energy storage, and clean metals production. He has authored and co-authored over 300 publications, including 28 issued patents. His courses developed and taught include materials thermodynamics, process kinetics, fuel cells and batteries, transport phenomena, environmental engineering, and green manufacturing.

  • 2020 Elected Fellow of AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science)
    (For pioneering work providing novel materials-based solutions in the field of green engineering as applied to energy conversion and primary production of materials)
  • 2015 AIME James Douglas Gold Medal
    (For pioneering work in the new field of green metallurgy and materials as applied to primary production and recycling of metals)
  • 2015 TMS Extraction and Processing Division Distinguished Lecturer Award
    (For pioneering work in the new field of green technology for metals production)
  • 2014 Richard E. Tressler Lecture and Award in Materials, Pennsylvania State University
    (For contributions to finding exciting materials-based solutions to critical environmental and energy issues)
  • 2012 Distinguished Foreign Scientist Award, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India
    (Under this scheme, eminent foreign scientists, nominated by established CSIR scientists, are invited to perform collaborative fuel cell-related work at CSIR labs)
