Naa Korkoi Tackie, a 2025 Graduate Summer Fellow at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is a PhD student in Emerging Media Studies in the College of Communication. She is conducting independent research to address how climate emotions within climate discourse influence engagement trends on social media with Reddit as the focus. She aims to employ computational analysis, specifically, machine learning (ML) models, to examine whether emotions present in climate-related posts on Reddit correlate with more or less engagement. The result of this study is projected to provide more insight into the detection and combat of online climate misinformation.
Tackie’s faculty advisor is Chris Wells (Professor, Emerging Media Studies, College of Communication and Affiliated Faculty, IGS) and her project is titled “Analyzing the Role of Climate Emotions in Shaping Engagement Patterns on Reddit.”
