Graduate Student Summer Fellow, IGS; Environmental Health, School of Public Health

Grace Betts, a 2026 Graduate Summer Fellow at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), is a PhD student in Environmental Health in the School of Public Health. Betts is conducting research to evaluate energy and cost implications in Boston for two heat decarbonization scenarios. She will analyze these outcomes across neighborhood and housing types and calculate associated emissions as a first step to completing a health impact assessment. These findings will hopefully help to inform and guide state decarbonization efforts.

Her faculty advisor is Patricia Fabian (Professor, Environmental Health, School of Public Health, and Associate Director, IGS) and her project is titled “Comparing Heat Decarbonization Scenarios for the City of Boston: Analyzing Impacts on Energy Demand, Cost, and Energy Justice.
