Watch Now: IGS Associate Director Cutler Cleveland Presents on Science Communication Project Visualizing Energy

Actionable scientific visualizations provide a common starting point for communities, researchers, advocates, and other stakeholders to work together to accelerate a sustainable and just energy transition.

Recently, Cutler Cleveland, an associate director at the Boston University Institute for Global Sustainability (IGS), delivered a virtual talk for Data Umbrella, a non-profit organization and a global community for underrepresented persons in data science.

In his talk, Cleveland discussed his work creating Visualizing Energy, an open-access scientific communication project at IGS. Visualizing Energy aims to cut through the disinformation,  jargon, and paywalls that regularly prevent people from accessing clear information about the world’s energy system, especially as it undergoes a tremendous shift.

“That’s really the essence of a lot of important science communication: getting that sort of cutting-edge research, that is…hard to access for the average person, and getting it out there on a platform like this,” Cleveland said.

Cleveland delves into the motivation and mission propelling the work, as well as the tools, team, and strategies that have allowed the project to take off in its first year. Watch the full video below. (July 16, 2024)
