He is also<br \/>\nPresident of the History of Sociology Research Committee, International<br \/>\nSociological Association. His articles have appeared in such venues as  the<br \/>\nAmerican Sociological Review, Archives europ\u00e9ennes de sociologie,  European<br \/>\nJournal of Political Theory, History and Theory, and Political Theory.  His<br \/>\nfirst book \u2013 Caesar and the Fading of the Roman World \u2013 was a Choice<br \/>\nOutstanding Book of 1998. His co-edition\/translation of the 1905 version<br \/>\nof Max Weber\u2019s The Protestant Ethic and the \u201cSpirit\u201d of Capitalism<br \/>\n(Penguin Classics), was nominated for the Wolff Translation Prize. His<br \/>\ncurrent research centers on the rhetoric of Islamism and Western<br \/>\ngovernments&#8217; response to it.
