Professor Pineda\u2019s research interests focus on nineteenth- and twentieth-century Spanish American literature, culture, and film and on the relationship between politics and culture.\u00a0 She is the author of\u00a0<\/span>Geopol\u00edticas de la cultura finisecular en Buenos Aires, Par\u00eds y M\u00e9xico: las revistas literarias y el modernismo<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(Pittsburgh: Instituto Internacional de Literatura Iberoamericana, 2006),\u00a0<\/span>Steinbeck y M\u00e9xico. Una mirada cinematogr\u00e1fica en la era de la hegemon\u00eda estadounidense<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(Bonilla y Artiga Editores, 2018) and\u00a0<\/span>The Mexican Revolution on the World Stage: Intellectuals and Film in the Twentieth Century<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(State University of New York Press, 2019).<\/span><\/p>\n

She has also co-edited four volumes:\u00a0 with Leticia Brauchli, Hacia el pa\u00eds del mezcal, a medley of American travel accounts about Mexico; with Ignacio S\u00e1nchez Prado,\u00a0<\/span>Alfonso Reyes y los estudios latinoamericanos<\/a><\/strong>, a collection of critical essays that examine this distinguished Mexican humanist\u2019s thought within the context of contemporary theory, with Jimena Obreg\u00f3n Iturra,\u00a0<\/span>Cin\u00e9ma et turbulences politiques en Am\u00e9rique Latine<\/a><\/strong>, a collection of critical essays on cinema and politics in Latin America, published by Prenses Universitares de Rennes in France, and with Jaime Marroqu\u00edn and Magdalena Mieri,\u00a0<\/span>Open Borders to a Revolution<\/a><\/strong>, a book centering on the impact of the Mexican Revolution in U.S.-Mexico relations (in\u00a0<\/span>Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n

Professor Pineda was awarded a grant by the US-Mexico Fund for Culture and the Rockefeller Foundation, and was a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI) in Mexico (1999-2001). \u00a0She has held the Chair of the Americas at the University of Rennes in France, and has been a visiting professor at Brown University and M.I.T. \u00a0Among the courses she teaches are those on nineteenth-century Spanish American literature; Latin American\u00a0<\/span>Modernismo<\/em>; Mexico City in Film and Literature; and the cultural manifestations of the Mexican Revolution. She is also a faculty member in the Latin American Studies Program at Boston University.<\/p>\n
