Internships run for <\/span><b>eight<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> weeks. Interns will serve in their roles for <\/span><b>twenty hours per week<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 All internships will have a significant in-person component. Partner institutions will provide the intern with career-relevant experience outside academia and ensure that interns receive appropriate mentoring and supervision; challenging tasks; and a productive work environment. Interns will also receive a written evaluation from their mentor at their host institution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The eight-week internship will be paid as \u201cnon-service\u201d for PhD students in years one through five but <strong>will not count against \u201cnon-service\u201d stipend limits<\/strong> (see FAQ below for details). Recipients should consult their department director of graduate studies regarding other service or non-service stipend options for the remainder of the summer. Compensation<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><b>For interns in the first five years of their PhD program<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (dated from the moment of application), the eight-week internship <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be paid as \u201cnon-service\u201d but will not count against non-service contractual stipend limits (see FAQ for details). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In order to receive their stipend payments for the balance of the summer, students can utilize some of the rest of their non-service stipend or arrange a \u201cservice\u201d opportunity.\u00a0 Recipients should contact their DGS to discuss their options.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Students beyond their fifth year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will receive a stipend of $7,725, equivalent to 8 weeks of labor at 20 hours per week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Eligibility<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>BU PhD humanities students in any year of their program are eligible to apply. Please write to the Center staff at buch@bu.edu with questions regarding eligibility.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\"> Intern Expectations<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interns are required to furnish a final report and give a public presentation about their experience. Reports will be published to the BUCH website. In addition there may be scheduled suggested separate group activities for all the interns to further develop their organizational and professional skills and to prepare for a public presentation in September.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Application<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>CV<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>A personal statement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> explaining how the skills and knowledge the applicant is developing in their humanities PhD programs relate both to their interest in this internship and to possible careers outside academia<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>One letter of recommendation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that foregrounds the applicant\u2019s writing, research, analytical, speaking, and organizational skills; note the applicant\u2019s ability to communicate ideas and arguments without jargon; and, importantly, highlight the student\u2019s interest in exploring career opportunities outside of higher education.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please note that in the application you will <\/span><b>identify your first through fourth choice internship institutions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. You will be asked to explain all choices and identify any site(s) at which you are unwilling to work. Be aware that the application review committee may consider you for any of the eight sites unless you indicate otherwise<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Information<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All materials are processed through the <a href=\"https:\/\/bu.infoready4.com\/#competitionDetail\/2004500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">InfoReady Review portal<\/a>.
