Faculty participants met individually with Ryan for one-on-one consultations about their book proposals and overall project goals. \u201cIt was great to have the opportunity to speak with an editor when the stakes are low,\u201d said Deeana Klepper, Associate Professor of Religion and History. \u201cIt wasn\u2019t like meeting with the editor you hope will want your book\u2014you get all the expertise without the pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_13085\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13085\" style=\"width: 260px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/humanities\/files\/2019\/07\/Ines-487x636.jpg\" alt=\"Ines Garcia de la Puente, WLL\" width=\"250\" height=\"326\" class=\"wp-image-13085\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13085\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ines Garcia de la Puente, WLL<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Ines Garcia de la Puente, Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian &amp; Comparative Literature, WLL, enjoyed the unique experience of having her work assessed by an expert like Ryan, saying, \u201cI think that as professors we are used to being the teacher who regularly evaluates students\u2019 papers, and it was refreshing, for a change, to have an educated, experienced editor evaluate my \u2018paper\u2019! Hearing about the strengths of my project was reassuring and hearing about what can be improved was inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Participants were asked to outline the topic and scope of their projects, including its rationale, and many found this a useful intellectual exercise. \u201cBeing asked to write only a brief introduction to the project and then to provide at least a paragraph or two on each chapter gave me space to reflect more fully on what each chapter brings to the whole.
