Lecture Performance Featuring James Johnson: "Maurice Ravel and the French Fin de Siècle"

  • Starts: 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 21, 2023
  • Ends: 7:30 pm on Tuesday, March 21, 2023
The composer Maurice Ravel is well-known for his orchestral work Bolero, but his works for the piano are some of his richest, most moving compositions. Join James Johnson for an exploration of Ravel’s music in the artistic and cultural context of late 19th-century France. Professor Johnson will play and discuss works from Miroirs, Ravel’s 1905 set of piano pieces intended to capture the sound and feel of birds, night moths, a valley of bells, and a boat on the ocean.
