{"id":10070,"date":"2025-06-18T09:00:55","date_gmt":"2025-06-18T13:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hub\/?page_id=10070"},"modified":"2026-05-13T15:00:01","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T19:00:01","slug":"social-inquiry-ii","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hub\/hub-courses\/social-inquiry-ii\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Inquiry II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Social Inquiry II falls under the Scientific and Social Inquiry Capacity.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Courses in Social Inquiry II build on previous college-level experience with social inquiry.<\/p>\n<p>While all courses in social inquiry involve the application of major concepts, learning experiences in Social Inquiry II require more advanced application of concepts and methods, such as the analysis of data, to frame and address complex problems.<\/p>\n<p>Courses in this area will have at least one of the following learning outcomes.<\/p>\n<section class=\"requirements\">\n<article class=\"capacity-two\">\n<h2>Learning Outcomes<\/h2>\n<div class=\"break\"><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<ol>\n<li>Students will apply principles and methods from the social sciences based on collecting new or analyzing existing data in order to address questions, solve problems, or deepen understanding. They will understand the nature of evidence employed in the social sciences and will demonstrate a capacity to differentiate competing claims in such fields. This includes reflecting on and critically evaluating how social scientists formulate hypotheses, gather empirical evidence of multiple sorts, and analyze and interpret this evidence.<\/li>\n<li>Using their knowledge of the natural and social sciences, students will engage with issues of public policy, such as climate change, inequality, and health that involve the intersection of perspectives from different disciplines.
