Submissions must be made by the manager or HR liaison, whichever is consistent with your internal department process.<\/p>\n<p>The turnaround time for an evaluation can be as long as 10 business days. Please plan accordingly. We will do our best to accommodate any unusual urgencies you have.<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Factors Involved in a Position Evaluation<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">When evaluating a position, Compensation considers the following factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>language<\/strong> used to describe the responsibilities of the position, and at what level the language places the position based on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/agencies\/whd\/flsa\">FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act)<\/a> standards<\/strong> and the characteristics of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hr\/manager-resources\/compensation\/job-framework\/career-categories-and-levels\/\"><strong>career levels<\/strong><\/a> in the University compensation structure<\/li>\n<li>The order of importance of the <strong>essential functions<\/strong> \u2013 they should be listed from most important to least important, regardless of percentage of each<\/li>\n<li>How the <strong>position compares with similar positions<\/strong>, both in the department or school and across the University, including:\n<ul>\n<li>Position language and responsibilities<\/li>\n<li>Position requirements<\/li>\n<li>Proposed job title<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The department\u2019s <strong>organizational structure, <\/strong>including which positions within the department or school function at a higher or lower level<\/li>\n<li><strong>Internal equity<\/strong> in the department and with regard to others mapped to the same job across the University<\/li>\n<li><strong>Market data<\/strong>, when available and applicable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<br \/>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Factors Involved in a Salary Increase Request<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">Compensation considers the following factors when evaluating a salary increase request:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Internal equity<\/strong> in the department and with regard to others mapped to the same job across the University<\/li>\n<li><strong>Market data<\/strong>, when available and applicable<\/li>\n<li>Employee\u2019s relevant <strong>experience<\/strong> (both within and outside of BU)\u00a0and<strong> length of service<\/strong> at BU<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Outcomes of an Evaluation<\/h2>\n<p><strong>New Position or Existing Position<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Determination of exempt or non-exempt status based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/agencies\/whd\/flsa\">FLSA<\/a> guidelines<\/li>\n<li>Determination by our partners in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hr\/labor-relations\/\">Labor Relations<\/a> whether the position falls under a collective bargaining agreement<\/li>\n<li>Determination of a job title and grade<\/li>\n<li>Recommended position title, if different than proposed<\/li>\n<li>Recommended salary or salary range<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Salary Increase<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recommended salary or salary range<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Compensation provides evaluations for position descriptions and pay administration.
