This framework provides a system for describing job functions in a way that recognizes the variety of our day-to-day work and rewards the talent and skill that helps the University move forward.<\/p>\n<p>This job framework aims to support:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clear and visible professional growth opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Transparency to support wage equity<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining a competitive position as an employer in hiring and retaining the best talent<\/li>\n<li>A common framework that helps us recognize and understand the different jobs and career paths we have here at the University<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All\u00a0<i>positions<\/i> at Boston University are mapped to a\u00a0<i>job<\/i>. While \u201cposition\u201d and \u201cjob\u201d are often used interchangeably, there is a difference:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>job<\/strong>\u00a0is a generic summary of key responsibilities which includes the general nature and level of work performed, the skills and knowledge required for competent performance, and other factors. The job description is used to obtain accurate market compensation data, which helps compare BU pay to pay for similar jobs outside of the University.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>position<\/strong>\u00a0is unique to an employee and is used for budgeting and posting purposes.
