The approved scenarios, and actions that must take place to achieve this are highlighted below. For any scenarios that are not addressed, please contact hrcomp@bu.edu and a member of the compensation team will review.<\/p>\n<table height=\"100\" width=\"800\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Scenario<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<td><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Action Needed<\/strong><\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Scenario #1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Employee works additional hours at his or her <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">regular rate<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Cost Object to be charged may or may not be the employee\u2019s regular Salary Cost Distribution.<\/td>\n<td><strong>Timesheet<\/strong> should be used to record additional hours. Any hours over 40 will be paid at the overtime rate, split across the Cost Distribution that the Manager or Payroll Coordinator indicates on the <strong>timesheet<\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Scenario #2<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Employee works additional hours at a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">different rate<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Cost Object to be charged is different from the employee\u2019s regular Salary Cost Distribution.<\/td>\n<td>Employee\u2019s Payroll Coordinator or Manager should complete the <strong>Secondary Work Payment Form<\/strong> for the additional hours.\u00a0 Any hours above 40 will be paid at a blended overtime rate of the employee\u2019s regular hourly rate and the hourly rate of the <strong>Secondary Work Payment Form<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Note:<\/span> If an employee works for multiple departments outside of the home department at different pay rates within the same week, the Secondary Work Payment form cannot be used. Complete this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hr\/manager-resources\/compensation\/secondary-work-payment-multiple-departments\/\">form<\/a> instead.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Scenario #3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Employee works regular or regular plus additional hours at a different rate for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">additional duties<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Additional duties generally are tasks that fall outside of what the individual is currently assigned.<\/p>\n<p>Cost Object to be charged is the same as the employee\u2019s regular Salary Cost Distribution.<\/td>\n<td>Employee\u2019s Manager or Payroll Coordinator should process a <strong>Salary Change Form<\/strong> to temporarily increase the employee\u2019s hourly rate for the time that he or she will be performing the additional duties.\u00a0 A second Salary Change form must be processed to reduce the hourly rate at the end of the additional duties.<\/p>\n<p>This temporary salary change will exist for up to three months.
