Students must complete their moves and return the key(s) to their old assignments no later than noon on <strong>Wednesday, December 2, 2026<\/strong>, for the Fall 2026 semester; no later than noon on <strong>Monday, February 15, 2027<\/strong>, for the Spring 2027 semester.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>What is a Direct Swap?<\/h3>\n<p>A direct swap request occurs when two students want to &#8220;swap&#8221; room assignments with each other. Direct swaps are specific for two students; we cannot perform swaps for more than two students at a time.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Complete a Direct Swap<\/h3>\n<p>Students who have completed the check-in process can log in on the <a href=\"http:\/\/bu.edu\/myhousing\">My Housing<\/a> portal and search for other students who are looking to direct swap. In order for a swap to be processed, each student must have spent one night in their assigned room.<\/p>\n<p>After finding a match, students can send or accept a swap request. Once accepted, BU Housing will contact students asking for confirmation. Students must receive the approval of BU Housing before the swap can take place. Once a direct swap is approved and completed, students will be notified of their new room assignment and will have 48 hours to complete the move.<\/p>\n<p>For a preview of the form see our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/housing\/assignments\/changes\/swaps\/direct-swap-walkthrough\/\">Direct Swap walkthrough<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students are permitted to direct swap with one another during designated periods during fall and spring semesters.<\/li>\n<li>Direct swaps are not permitted during the Intersession period (between fall and spring semesters) or during the summer for the upcoming academic year.<\/li>\n<li>Because of variable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/housing\/living\/rates\/\">residence rates<\/a>, the new assignment may be more expensive than the present assignment. Students are responsible for payment of the higher rate for the new accommodation as stated in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/housing\/assignments\/abroad\/agreement\/\">Residence License Agreement<\/a> and detailed in the academic year residence and dining plan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/housing\/living\/rates\/\">rate schedule<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Room changes between dormitory-style and apartment-style residences will result in changes in dining plan status.
