I heard Kip Becker (SHA Professor at that time) speak on behalf of the School of Hospitality Administration, culinary classes and the Brussels study abroad program. That was enough to engage and excite me into what is now going into\u00a0my 25th year in this industry. I love the challenges the industry provides, the business aspects and the opportunity to be of service to others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are some of your favorite BU memories?<\/strong><br \/>\nFreshman year (1986) Mets vs. Red Sox, as a kid my grandfather took my brothers and I to Shea Stadium, so this was a great way to start college. Cooking with Julia Child and Jacque Pepin. Studying abroad in Brussels, Belgium. Just to name a few.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What was your first full-time job? How did you end up in your current position?<\/strong><br \/>\nMy first full-time job was\u00a0the Hyatt Corporate Training Program at the Hyatt Regency O\u2019Hare in Chicago. I loved the experience and the hard work paid off. I learned invaluable lessons about guest service and how to manage a high quality operation.\u00a0 I ended up in my current position through interacting with various industry colleagues. I eventually learned that my passion lies in wine, sales and marketing. I truly enjoy working for Domaine Serene (Oregon) and the Evenstad family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please describe your current role. How did your SHA education impact your career?<\/strong><br \/>\nCurrently, I represent Domaine Serene Winery from Oregon as the Sales Director for the Southeast Region, Caribbean, and Latin America. My education at SHA enabled me to prepare for the real life experiences in our industry. During my education at SHA I was fortunate to have jobs at marquis hotels like Hyatt and Marriott which set a high benchmark for quality service, products, and guest relations. All of which remain paramount core values in my work ethic today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any advice for current and prospective students?<\/strong><br \/>\nImmerse yourself in the classes &amp; seek professors\u2019 advice.\u00a0 Challenge yourself to do your best at all levels\u2014\u00a04 years moves by FAST. Gain meaningful\u00a0industry experience during your time at SHA. Be humble, graceful and respectful.
