{"id":9064,"date":"2021-02-23T16:36:09","date_gmt":"2021-02-23T21:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/?p=9064"},"modified":"2021-07-07T11:00:14","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T15:00:14","slug":"bu-sha-announces-new-concentration-senior-living","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/2021\/02\/23\/bu-sha-announces-new-concentration-senior-living\/","title":{"rendered":"BU School of Hospitality Announces New Concentration  in Senior Living"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/academics\/graduate-programs\/mmh\/bu-mmh-senior-living\/untitled-design-19\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8998\"><\/a><a href=\"\/hospitality\/files\/2021\/04\/6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/hospitality\/files\/2021\/04\/6.jpg\" alt=\"BU SHA MMH Senior Living 2\" width=\"1024\" height=\"597\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9671\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/files\/2021\/04\/6.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/files\/2021\/04\/6-636x371.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/files\/2021\/04\/6-768x448.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/academics\/graduate-programs\/mmh\/bu-mmh-senior-living\/untitled-design-19\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8998\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>(February 23, \u00a02021) Boston, MA \u2013 <\/strong>Boston University\u2019s School of Hospitality Administration (BU SHA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/about\/dean-arun-upneja\/\">Dean Arun Upneja<\/a>, PhD, and Associate Professor of the Practice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/profile\/leora-halpern-lanz\/\">Leora Halpern Lanz<\/a>, ISHC, \u00a0Faculty Chair of the School\u2019s Master of Management in Hospitality (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/academics\/graduate-programs\/mmh\/\">MMH<\/a>) degree program, have announced the launch of a new concentration: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/academics\/graduate-programs\/mmh\/bu-mmh-senior-living\/\">Senior Living<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Complementing existing concentrations in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/academics\/graduate-programs\/mmh\/revenue-management-analytics\/\">Revenue Management &amp; Analytics<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/academics\/graduate-programs\/mmh\/real-estate-development-finance\/\">Real Estate and Finance<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/academics\/graduate-programs\/mmh\/digital-marketing\/\">Digital Marketing<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hospitality\/academics\/graduate-programs\/mmh\/innovation-entrepreneurship\/\">Innovation &amp; Entrepreneurship<\/a>, this concentration in Senior Living expands SHA\u2019s reach, extending hospitality to other areas where students\u2019 skill sets are much needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe MMH concentration in Senior Living provides students the opportunity to bring the hospitality experience to the rapidly growing senior living and long-term care industries,\u201d states Dean Upneja. \u201cThis concentration is offered for job opportunities and to enable students who wish to pursue a field that is altruistic and socially responsible; this is a field that cares for seniors today and tomorrow. Pursuing a career in Senior Living means doing well by doing good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Courses in the MMH program include the SHA required classes in Leadership, Finance and Branding &amp; Marketing. Specific to this concentration are new classes in Senior Living Operations, Monitoring the Resident Journey Experience and the Business of Senior Care. Optional electives are also available in Hospitality Real Estate Financing &amp; Feasibility and through the Boston University School of Social Work (Social Policy and Programs in Aging; Clinical Practice with Older Adults) and Boston University\u2019s School of Public Health (Individual, Community and Population Health).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis concentration focuses on the core requirements for hospitality executives to understand how skills can be transferred from traditional hospitality operations to those in senior living communities,\u201d explains Lanz. \u201cWe are also grateful to NIC, the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing, for its support of our new program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The program will launch Fall 2021 and applications are online now.
