Welcome-Back BBQ – Food Truck Fiesta!

Welcome Back Celebration! We invite SHA students for this annual kickoff to the new school year. Meet fellow students, faculty, and staff at this casual get-together. In honor of SHA’s year-long 40th-anniversary celebration, the traditional BBQ features some added spice with award-winning tacos from North East of the Border food truck. Come for the food, festivities, and fun outdoor lawn games, music, and more!

Field Trip: Boston Public Market

Join Professor Leora Lanz, Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs; Faculty Chair, MMH; Associate Professor of the Practice, the “host” of this tour, for a visit to the Boston Public Market. Learn about the operations and marketing of this year-round marketplace featuring about 30 New England artisans and food producers housed under one roof offering fresh foods, prepared meals, crafts, and specialty items.

These professor-led tours are part of the 40th-anniversary celebration series of enriching and entertaining events and programs. These tours provide an informal opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to connect outside of the classroom while getting to know Boston and its culturally rich and diverse landmarks, neighborhoods, businesses, and people through a hospitality lens. 

*Meeting point: in front of George Howell Coffee where you will have some time before the tour starts to purchase a coffee and pastry to kickstart your day!

Esplanade Bike Tour

Explore the Esplanade on your bike with SHA’s newest faculty member, Richard Currie, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Leadership and Workplace Psychology, “host” of this tour. Students will need to provide their own bikes, helmets, and water bottles. Light snacks will be provided. Before or after the (light) bike ride, check out the Farmers’ Market at GSU for local, fresh fruit, vegetables, and artisanal products.

Pizza Party Cooking Event

Tie on an apron and step into the kitchen for this annual tradition to make and eat pizza together. Led by SHA Faculty member Chef Nick Schiarizzi  (GF and vegetarian options will be available.)

This year, in addition to freshman students, we invite sophomores, who missed this SHA tradition last year to join the fun!

Field Trip: Eataly

Tour Eataly Boston and explore Italian cuisine combined with New England flair! Sean Jung, Ph.D, Assistant Professor of Hospitality Analytics, “hosts” this tour. Enjoy delicious assaggini, or snacks, and speak with the experts behind them to learn all there is to know about Italian food and culture. Students will also get a behind-the-scenes look into the management and operations of this bustling renowned Italian marketplace with 50,000 square feet of restaurants, take-away counters, private event spaces, and a cooking school-all that serve high-quality food and drink from Italy and the U.S.

AHLA New York City Trip

AHLA is hosting its annual overnight trip to New York City! During this trip, students will be able to tours some of the prominent hotels of the city while also connecting with other hospitality students and professionals. This overnight trip is sure to expand your horizon and be an unforgettable experience. In addition, there will be built in time for students to explore New York City!
