This Thanksgiving, Give Thanks By Giving Back. Here Are Some Amazing Boston Non-Profits That Still Need Volunteers!

By Jack Beck (CAS ’21, SHA Minor)

When you think about it, Thanksgiving and hospitality go hand in hand. Use the holiday to show off what you’ve learned in class and prove what it means to practice genuine hospitality. You can even take this generosity a step further this Thanksgiving, and give back to the Boston Community by volunteering your time to help serve holiday meals to those who need them.

Here are a few options in the Boston area for volunteer opportunities that still need help this Thanksgiving. Keep in mind that if any of these locations have reached their volunteer limit, you can always add your name to the waiting list.

New England Home for Veterans

Support those who have served for their country this holiday by serving meals or helping in the kitchen at one the largest homeless veteran support programs in New England.

Boston Living Center

Boston Living Center targets specifically those affected by HIV/AIDS. This holiday, help by preparing and serving a Thanksgiving lunch to all who come by.

East End House

East End House provides pre-made Thanksgiving meal baskets to under-resourced families in the greater Boston area. Volunteers help by assembling and distributing the baskets.

Elizabeth Peabody House

The Elizabeth Peabody House is one of the largest food pantries in the city, and this Thanksgiving you can lend a hand with stocking, sorting, and delivering donations.

Red Cross Food Pantry

Help sort, bag, and distribute food donations for Red Cross. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest weeks of the year for the pantry, so any help possible is appreciated!

Daily Table

Whenever a restaurant or grocery store has excess food, Daily Table provides a place for them to donate their leftovers to be repurposed. This holiday, they are sure to need all the help they can get with managing and distributing Thanksgiving donations.
