His book reviews, author interviews and coverage of the publishing industry have appeared regularly in <em>The New York Times<\/em>, <em>Newsday<\/em>, <em>People <\/em>and other publications. A graduate of The University of Chicago, he started his career in journalism at Publishers Weekly and was assistant book editor at <em>Newsday<\/em> as well as a senior editor at Scribner before joining The Times in 1996. He was a National Arts Journalism Program fellow at the Columbia School of Journalism in 2003-04. His essay on the performance history of Milton\u2019s \u201cSamson Agonistes,\u201d \u201cSamson Regained: A Play in Perpetual World Premiere,\u201d was published in the collection <em>Uncircumscribed Mind: Reading Milton Deeply<\/em>, edited by Charles W. Durham and Kristin A. Pruitt (Susquehanna University Press, 2008).
