Jeanna Kinnebrew is a Ph.D. candidate at Boston University. Her research interests include the history of philanthropy; sexual and public health; women and gender in the twentieth century; the American South; and transnational public-private partnerships. Her dissertation, “Inventing Sexual Health in the Puritan City, 1919-1980,” explores how Boston-area nonprofit organizations shaped national sexual and public health policy.

Prior to attending Boston University, Jeanna worked for more than a decade as a development officer for Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union. She holds an A.B. from Harvard University in history (2001) and a M.A. from Middle Tennessee State University in history (2015).

Jeanna’s work has been published in The United Nations in International History (Bloomsbury, 2017). Reflecting her strong interest in the practice and philosophy of education, she served as a Graduate Teaching Consultant for the BU Center for Teaching and Learning (2018) and as the Graduate Student Representative for BU’s Graduate Academic Affairs Committee (2016). She is also an active alumni mentor for Primus, Harvard’s First-Generation Student Union.
