The Spruce Point Inn is located at the tip of a forested peninsula surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean. The inn is within walking distance of the resort town of Boothbay Harbor, an hour north of the Portland airport. The best way to get there is to drive up in your own car or in a car rented at the Portland airport. If you choose not to drive, reserve a seat on the shuttle bus we will arrange to have waiting at the Portland airport in the early afternoon of June 3. The bus will return to the airport in midmorning of Sunday, June 6. There will be space on your registration form to indicate your need for a seat on the bus.

We choose to meet at the Spruce Point Inn because of the exceptional beauty of the setting and because of the remarkable amenities available to us. The sea and the forest surround the lodgings and the conference facilities. The dining rooms serve sophisticated meals and the guest rooms range from comfortable to sybaritic. The main attraction, however, is that this particular setting practically dictates a level of informal interaction impossible to achieve in the usual hotel.

Although the inn can serve all of us in the dining rooms, there will not be enough rooms to house everyone. This is not a problem, because many rooms are available, at moderate rates, within walking distance. The most economical choices are the very nice rooms, each with its own bathroom, located in 2 or 3 bedroom cottages with shared living rooms and kitchens. Needless to say, there is a heated swimming pool: bring your swimsuit and your children. The inn will start taking reservations for our conference in October of 2003 (1-800-553-0289). They will be glad to send you a brochure on request and their Web site is www.sprucepointinn.com. If you wait too long and discover that all the rooms are taken, don’t worry: the desk clerk will refer you to any number of motels, inns and B and Bs in Boothbay. We look forward to seeing you at the Spruce Point Inn in 2004.
