He is part of the department&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iss.bu.edu\/\" target=\"NewWindow\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Information Systems and Sciences<\/a>\u00a0(ISS) Laboratory, Boston University&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/centers-initiatives-labs\/center-for-computational-science\/\">Center for Computational Science<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/systems\/\">Center for Information and Systems Engineering<\/a>\u00a0(CISE). Castanon is\u00a0deputy director of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center, the Bernard M. Gordon<a href=\"http:\/\/www.censsis.neu.edu\/\">Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging Systems<\/a>\u00a0(CenSSIS), and associate director of the Department of Homeland Security ALERT Center of Excellence.
