Her main focus is on perpetrators of violence and the possible connections between trauma and terror.\u00a0 She has written on terrorist groups across religions and ideologies, among them neo-Nazis, Islamists, anarchists, and white supremacists.\u00a0 She has also written about counter-radicalization programs for both neo-Nazi and Islamist terrorists.\u00a0 She has been working with a team at the Harvard School of Public Health to evaluate countering violent extremism (CVE) programs in Colorado, Canada, Sweden and Macedonia, a project funded by NATO and the Department of Homeland Security. She is also working on a project researching prison deradicalization funded by the National Institute of Justice.\u00a0 Her forthcoming book,<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>My War Criminal: Personal Encounters with an Architect of Genocide<\/em>, is a study of Radovan Karadzic, indicted for war crimes in Bosnia.<\/p>\n<p>Stern is the coauthor with J.M. Berger of<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>ISIS: The State of Terror<\/em>; and the author of<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Denial: A Memoir of Terror<\/em>, selected by the<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Washington Post<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>as a best book of the year;<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Terror in the Name of God<\/em>:<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Why Religious Militants Kill<\/em>, selected by the<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>New York Times<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>as a notable book of the year;<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>The Ultimate Terrorists<\/em>; and numerous articles on terrorism.
