Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science &amp; Engineering and is a Faculty Affiliate of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Information &amp; Systems Engineering (CISE)<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\"><span class=\"w8qArf\">Dr. Li&#8217;s research interests include<span>:<\/span> <\/span><span><span class=\"LrzXr kno-fv wHYlTd z8gr9e\">trustworthy AI, cyber-physical systems, formal methods, machine learning.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">He directs the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.bu.edu\/depend\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dependable Computing Laboratory, <\/a><\/span><span>where research includes<\/span><span>\u00a0development of\u00a0<em>computational proof methods<\/em> (a.k.a. formal methods) and <em>machine learning<\/em> techniques to aid the construction of <em>safe<\/em>, <em>reliable<\/em> and <em>secure<\/em> systems. Applications of their work run the gamut from electronic design automation, through multi-robot systems, to self-driving cars.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Prior to joining BU, he was a Computer Scientist in the Computer Science Laboratory at SRI International, Menlo Park. He received a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in\u00a0Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and a B.A. in Economics from the\u00a0University of California, Berkeley. \u00a0His research interests are in dependable computing, with a current focus on applying computational proof methods and machine learning techniques to problems in cyber-physical systems, electronic design automation, and A.I. safety. \u00a0His awards include the\u00a0ACM Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award in Electronic Design Automation and the Leon O. Chua Award for outstanding achievement in nonlinear science.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">In 2018, he was awarded the Peter J. Levine Career Development Professorship. He is also a Junior Faculty Fellow at the Rafik B. Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science &amp; Engineering.\u00a0 Prior to joining BU, he was a Computer Scientist at SRI International, Menlo Park. Professor Li received a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. <span class=\"s1\">His Ph.D. thesis on specification mining was awarded the\u00a0ACM Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award in Electronic Design Automation. He also received the\u00a0Leon O.
