{"id":12726,"date":"2017-09-29T13:26:41","date_gmt":"2017-09-29T17:26:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=12726"},"modified":"2025-11-24T17:51:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T22:51:31","slug":"kate-saenko","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/profile\/kate-saenko\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate Saenko"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ai.bu.edu\/ksaenko.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>Kate Saenko<\/span><\/a><strong><span> <\/span><\/strong><span>is a Professor of Computer Science (CAS) at <span aria-hidden=\"true\">Boston University,<\/span> <\/span><span>and AI Research Scientist at <span aria-hidden=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ai.facebook.com\/research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FAIR Labs, Meta<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>At the Hariri Institute, Saenko is a member of the Steering Committee, and the Founder and <span>Co-Director of BU\u2019s <\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/centers-initiatives-labs\/air\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Artificial Intelligence Research (AIR) Initiative<\/a><\/span><span>. She also co-leads the Institute&#8217;s \u201c<\/span><span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/research\/focused-research-programs\/teaching-machines-human-like-intelligence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Teaching Machines Human-Like Intelligence<\/a><\/span><span>\u201d Focused Research Program<\/span><span>. She is also Director of BU\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/ai.bu.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Computer Vision Learning Group<\/a> <\/span><span>and a member of\u00a0the <a href=\"\/cs\/ivc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">IVC Group<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Saenko specializes in machine learning, concentrating on the development of new systems to enhance vision and language understanding. <span aria-hidden=\"true\">Her research interests are in the broad area of Artificial Intelligence with a focus on dataset bias, adaptive machine learning, learning for image and language understanding, and deep learning.\u00a0<\/span>The recipient of several active federal grants supporting her research into artificial intelligence, she has published extensively in leading computer science journals.
