Ventures.<\/p>\n<p>The Institute\u2019s research profile provides broader impact by enabling researchers to test and implement new ideas while offering exclusive experiential learning opportunities to BU students. As part of its support of these experiential learning courses, the Institute hosts poster sessions in which students present their final group projects. Through these experiential learning opportunities, students are able to apply classroom learning\u00a0to real-world challenges and gain exposure to potential employers. These events are open to the public and attendees from the local computer science and tech community are invited and encouraged to attend.\u00a0Poster sessions provides unique\u00a0opportunities to meet with over\u00a0two hundred students interested in topics ranging from data science, to machine learning, to software development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, December 8, 2017<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>3:00 pm \u2013 5:00 pm<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Hariri Institute for Computing, 111 Cummington Mall<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Data Mechanics Poster Session\u00a0<\/strong>(CS591 L1)<br \/>\n<strong>Instructor<\/strong>: Andrei Lapets<br \/>\n<strong>Number of Students\u00a0<\/strong><span><b>Presenters<\/b><\/span>: 60<br \/>\nStudents will present projects in which they worked with real data sets\u00a0from the City of Boston, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation,\u00a0and a variety of data portals of local organizations and neighboring\u00a0cities in order to build applications and services that answer\u00a0questions, perform analyses, and solve optimization problems related to\u00a0the organization and characterization of urban resources.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, December 12, 2017<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>3:30 pm \u2013 6:30 pm<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>CILSE Seminar\u00a0Space, Room 101<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Mobile App Development Presentation\u00a0<\/strong>(CS591)<br \/>\n<strong>Instructor:\u00a0<\/strong>Shereif Al Sheikh<br \/>\n<strong>Number of Students\u00a0<span><b>Presenters<\/b><\/span>: <\/strong>35<br \/>\n<span>Students will be presenting a broad range of projects utilizing Android technologies.\u00a0 All apps are data driven, many using advanced technologies including image processing, web scraping and geo location services.\u00a0 All apps consume device sensor data and tie into social media platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, December 12, 2017<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>4:00 pm \u2013 6:00 pm<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Hariri Institute for Computing, 111 Cummington Mall<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Machine Learning Poster Session\u00a0<\/strong>(CS542)<br \/>\n<strong>Instructor<\/strong>: Kate Saenko<br \/>\n<strong>Number of Students\u00a0<\/strong><span><b>Presenters<\/b><\/span>: 83<br \/>\nThe Machine Learning class will present their work applying ML techniques to a range of real-world data analysis and prediction problems. The projects were developed in collaboration with BU Spark! partner institutions and include: automatic tagging of photos from the international space station; predicting the sale value of real estate using photos; matching dating app users based on personal likes and dislikes, automatically generating news headlines from financial trading date, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, December 13, 2017<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>1:00 pm \u2013 4:00 pm<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Hariri Institute for Computing, 111 Cummington Mall<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Tools for Data Science Poster Session\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong><\/strong>CS506)<br \/>\n<strong>Instructor<\/strong><span>: Mark Crovella<\/span><br \/>\n<span><strong>Number of Students\u00a0<\/strong><b>Presenters<\/b>: 63<\/span><br \/>\nStudents will present a wide range of data-driven investigations, many of which were developed in collaboration with BU Spark! Partners such as NECIR, Thomson Reuters, Citizens for Juvenile Justice, and many others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday, December 19, 2017<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>5:00 pm \u2013 7:30 pm<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Hariri Institute for Computing, 111 Cummington Mall<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Spark Ventures Demo Day <\/strong>(CS491)<br \/>\n<strong>Instructor<\/strong><span>:\u00a0Ziba Cramner<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>Number of Students\u00a0<\/strong><span><b>Presenters<\/b>: 15<\/span><br \/>\nThe Spark! Demo day will feature students who have completed the Spark! Product innovation program. Projects range from an aircraft collision avoidance system to a platform to expedite the approval of college transfer credits through data science. Select Spark!
