Led by <a href=\"http:\/\/physics.bu.edu\/people\/show\/cab\" target=\"_blank\">Cynthia Brossman<\/a> and supported by RISCS Co-Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/profile\/mayank-varia\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mayank Varia<\/a>, Institute Fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/profile\/sharon-goldberg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sharon Goldberg<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Junior Faculty Fellow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/profile\/manuel-egele\/\" target=\"_blank\">Manuel Egele<\/a>, this 4-week summer program provides 24 high school girls with the opportunity to learn about cryptography and network security.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/centers-initiatives-labs\/sail\/\" target=\"_blank\">SAIL<\/a> team was invited to host a guest lecture as part of the program\u2019s mission to introduce high school female students to professionals in STEM and related fields.\u00a0Hosting the workshop at the Hariri Institute allowed the students an opportunity to experience a research software engineering environment at Boston University.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/profile\/san-tran\/\" target=\"_blank\">San Tran<\/a>\u00a0(SAIL Research Development &amp; Consulting\u00a0Manager) will be co-leading the workshop, with contributors\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/profile\/shreya-pandit\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shreya Pandit<\/a> (SAIL Software Engineer), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/2017\/01\/27\/sail\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aditi Dass<\/a> (SAIL Software Engineer Intern), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/profile\/rawane-issa\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rawane Issa<\/a> (SAIL Software Engineer Fellow). The two-hour workshop consisted of an overview of SAIL and the team&#8217;s\u00a0projects, an introduction to Multi-Party Computing (MPC), and an interactive group exercise that allowed the students to dive deeper into MPC techniques by applying them to different case studies.\u00a0<span>Both Rawane and Aditi are heavily involved in MPC-related research this summer.\u00a0<\/span><span>Aditi was also a Codebreakers coordinator last summer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Codebreakers outreach program,\u00a0an extension of the Institute&#8217;s\u00a0existing and successful Artemis outreach program,\u00a0has been renewed for a second year.
