On\u00a0Friday, April 28th, the Fellows gave team presentations on selected, admired leaders to an audience of their cohort, coordinators, and Dr. Chris Roland\u2014one of the\u00a0facilitators of our fall orientation retreat who provided individual\u00a0leadership coaching sessions for the Fellows this spring.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Admired Leaders presentation\u00a0event is the capstone session for the Fellows’\u00a0year-long leadership<\/span>\u00a0development seminar led by Dr. Jack McCarthy, HHHP Director and Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior. The cohort had been working over the entire Fellowship year toward this session, which served as a platform for them\u00a0to demonstrate leadership<\/span> and teamwork through working together and acting upon the lessons from Dr. McCarthy’s\u00a0lectures and their\u00a0coaching sessions with Dr. Roland.<\/p>\n

Each team presented on their Admired Leader for fifteen minutes, and\u00a0ten minutes of Q&A followed. The Fellows were instructed to choose by consensus someone who exhibits exemplary leadership\u00a0and to avoid \u201ccelebrity\u201d leaders (e.g., Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, etc.). The Fellows presented on\u00a0the following leaders:<\/p>\n

Majid Samii<\/strong>,\u00a0a distinguished Iranian-German neurosurgeon and medical scientist who established Africa 100<\/a>, an\u00a0education foundation for training 100 neurosurgeons across\u00a0Africa. <\/span>Presenters: <\/span>Mahmoud Mohammadi Khomeini, Josiane Sylvie Mbakop Noukeu, Beatriz Gonzalez, and Zamir Khan<\/p>\n

Michelle Obama<\/strong>, the former first lady of the United States who launched initiatives such as Let’s Move<\/a> and Let Girls Learn<\/a>. Presenters: Pakaiphone Syphoxay, Valeria Rios Molina, Sevgim \u00c7elik Keskin<\/p>\n

Strive Masiyiwa<\/strong>, a London based Zimbabwean businessman, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. Masiyiwa\u00a0is the founder and executive chairman of the international telecommunications group Econet Wireless<\/a> and a member of the Africa Progress Panel<\/a>, a group of ten distinguished individuals who advocate at the highest levels for equitable and sustainable development in Africa. Presented by Edward Kapili, Labada Mini, and Sera Kaukilakeba<\/p>\n

Each team presented for fifteen minutes, and 10 minutes of Q&A followed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span>After each team completed their presentation, each Fellow within the\u00a0team provided a five-minute, personal summary of their own Leadership<\/span> Development Plan with reference to the key lessons they\u00a0learned over the past year.<\/p>\n

It was a wonderful afternoon of presentation and discussion, and it was also the last opportunity for the entire 2016\u20132017 cohort to meet as a group.<\/p>\n
