Daniel M. Abramson\u2019s scholarship focuses on issues of architecture, society, economics, and government, from the eighteenth through twentieth centuries with a specialization in American and British topics.\u00a0\u00a0His primary PhD advising has covered these areas, plus South Asian modernism.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Abramson is the author of three books:\u00a0<\/span>Obsolescence: An Architectural History<\/u><\/i><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(University of Chicago Press, 2016);\u00a0<\/span>Building the Bank of England: Money, Architecture, Society, 1694\u20131942<\/u><\/i><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>Yale University Press<\/u><\/a><\/span>, 2005); and\u00a0<\/span>Skyscraper Rivals: The AIG Building and the Architecture of Wall Street<\/u><\/i><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Princeton Architectural Press, 2001); as well as being co-editor with the\u00a0<\/span>Aggregate Architectural History Collaborative<\/u><\/a><\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>Writing Architectural History: Evidence and Narrative in the Twenty-First Century<\/u><\/i><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(University of Pittsburgh Press, 2021) and of\u00a0<\/span>Governing By Design: Architecture, Economy, and Politics in the Twentieth Century<\/u><\/i><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(University of Pittsburgh Press, 2012).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Current work focuses on architecture and citizenship in American government building complexes since 1900 with articles in\u00a0Grey Room<\/i>\u00a0<\/span>78<\/u><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>101<\/u><\/a><\/span>, the\u00a0<\/span>Journal of Society of Architectural Historians<\/u><\/i><\/a>,<\/u><\/i><\/span>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>Aggregate<\/u><\/i><\/a><\/span>\u00a0website.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before coming to Boston University in 2016, Abramson taught at Tufts University and Connecticut College. He received his Ph.D. in art history from Harvard University\u00a0\u00a0and his B.A. in English and American literature from Princeton University.<\/span><\/p>\n
