Alumni Profile – Francesca Soriano
1. What have you been doing since you graduated from BU? Details about your current and past employment? Accomplishments you’re proud of? Challenges you’ve encountered?
Since graduating from BU this past spring, I’ve started as Associate Curator of American Art at the Farnsworth Art Museum. It’s been a busy first few months with exhibition openings, public programming, and museum events. I’ve been working on my first exhibition at the Farnsworth, which will open this winter, as well as visiting artists, galleries, and other museums in the area and starting to plan for future exhibitions.
2. How did your time in the department shape your professional and personal lives?
I knew coming into graduate school that I wanted to work in museums, so I’m grateful for the opportunities I had to work at local institutions in the greater Boston area. Being able to work on a variety of exhibitions and meet museum professionals during graduate school was invaluable. My time in the department also really taught me how to multitask, which is incredibly useful to me now, since I’m balancing several exhibition projects at once on top of other museum duties.
3. Any advice that you would’ve given to your younger self?
I would tell my younger self that it is never too early to network and meet new people because you never know what opportunities it might lead to.
