The PDG Program will provide funding for registration fees and other expenses associated with participating in professional development events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Who is eligible to apply for a PDG?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The PDG Program is open to members of the GWISE and WISEguys community. Priority will be given to those who have attended <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GWISE events in the past calendar year (not applicable for students in their first semester at Boston University). Check out <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gwise\/events-2\/past-pdg-winners\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">past recipients<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0of PDGs!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What type of professional development opportunities would be supported?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GWISE will fund a range of opportunities, including (but not limited to) workshops, networking events, memberships in professional societies, and professional conferences (not related to research). <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/massawis.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MASS AWIS<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.westorg.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WEST<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.massbio.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MassBio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> all hold events in the Boston area that might be of interest to graduate students and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/careerdevelopment.aaas.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AAAS <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">holds online career development workshops. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Please be aware that grants are not intended for travel to scientific meetings related to your research. Other avenues are available for such funding. Our goal is to fill an otherwise unmet need for professional development funding. If you are attending a conference or all-day workshop during the work week, please be sure to clear it with your advisor.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">How many grants are available and how much do they cover?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GWISE will award PDGs on a tiered basis to support a variety of professional development opportunities. Grants are awarded at various monetary values up to $300.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More grants may become available according to demand and budget considerations.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>When are the application deadlines?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applications can now be submitted on a rolling basis throughout the academic year (Sept 2025\u2013 May 2026). \u00a0Applications are reviewed biweekly.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How many times can I apply?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">GWISE wants to benefit as many members as possible, so each member will be awarded\u00a0<\/span><b>no more than one PDG each academic year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. If you are unsuccessful in a given cycle, you are eligible to apply again during that academic year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have already been awarded a PDG through GWISE, you may be eligible to apply for a scholarship to attend an event through the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/funding-grants\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Office of the Provost for Graduate Affair\u2019s PDG<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How do I apply?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apply online using this <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdxrb-R3dqXl25tGPQl4sxgnWJcDOViObhEDnWHgLoCa_GUrg\/viewform?usp=sharing&amp;ouid=117939481353066647116\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0form. You will be notified within one week whether or not you will receive an award.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>What happens after I am awarded a PDG?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you receive the grant, register for the opportunity via the host organization\u2019s system. GWISE will reimburse you following the event.\u00a0<\/span><b>Be sure to attend the event<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013GWISE will NOT reimburse you for events you do not attend! Following the event, you must submit your receipts or proof of registration to GWISE for reimbursement. We also require that grantees send us a write-up of the event to be posted as a blog post on the GWISE website so that you can share what you learned with the GWISE community.
