{"id":7,"date":"2010-07-21T15:28:09","date_gmt":"2010-07-21T20:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gso\/?page_id=7"},"modified":"2025-10-06T14:13:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T18:13:47","slug":"about-the-gso","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gso\/about-the-gso\/","title":{"rendered":"About the GSO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: large; font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">The GSO is the official representative body of the graduate students in the Arts and Sciences at Boston University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: large; font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">The purpose of the GSO is: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">To provide a forum for the discussion of matters pertaining to the welfare of graduate students at BU. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">To advocate on issues of concern to our graduate student community. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">To serve as a liaison between the graduate student body and the BU administration. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">To recommend graduate students to serve on BU committees for which graduate representation is necessary. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">To assist with the process of integrating new students into graduate student life at BU. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">To sponsor social activities and other events that encourage the development of the graduate student community. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Franklin Gothic Book;\">To foster effective communication and cooperation among undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff and other members of the community.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What does the GSO do?<\/h3>\n<p>The GSO is a group of graduate student representatives from each department in GRS. We hold monthly meetings to allocated funds, plan events and discuss issues relevant to graduate students at Boston University. The GSO is completely student run, so nothing gets done without students like you. \u00a0A few key roles the GSO fulfills:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide a liaison between graduate students and administration.<\/li>\n<li>Support graduate student travel by awarding grants for graduate conference and research travel annually.<\/li>\n<li>Plan social events, like Pub Nights and swap meets, to foster community.<\/li>\n<li>Advocate for graduate students on important issues.<\/li>\n<li>Support conferences and other events on campus by co-sponsoring events.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a href=\"\/gso\/files\/2025\/10\/2024-GSO-Constitution-Current.pdf\">2024 GSO Constitution &#8211; Current<\/a><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The GSO is the official representative body of the graduate students in the Arts and Sciences at Boston University.
