GWISE also runs a campus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gwise\/gwise-groups\/\" title=\"GWISE mothers group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mothers&#8217; Group<\/a>. Full time PhD students have access to paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child. This program is called the Childbirth and Adoption Accommodation for full-time PhD Students. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/academics\/policies\/childbirth-and-adoption-accommodation\/\" title=\"Childbirth and Adoption Accommodation for PhD Students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details of PhD policy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/students\/graduate\/grs-forms-policies-procedures\/childbirth-and-adoption-accommodation-for-full-time-phd-students\/\" title=\"Instructions for applying. \" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">instructions.<\/a>\u00a0For masters students, there is a similar policy allowing for time off for childbirth and adoption. Masters students will only be paid during this period if they are already paid a stipend. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/students\/graduate\/grs-forms-policies-procedures\/grs-masters-forms-policies-procedures\/childbirth_grs_masters\/\" title=\"details of the masters policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details of the masters policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Funding<\/h3>\n<p>Below is our best list of internal and external fellowships and other funding.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The GSO offers<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gso\/travelgrants\/\" title=\"Travel Grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> travel grants<\/a> for research and conference travel.<\/li>\n<li>The BU\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/bufellow\/\" title=\"office of fellowships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office of Fellowships<\/a>\u00a0maintains a list of fellowships and other opportunities graduate students may want to consider. They are also responsible for nominating students for fellowships that require a nomination from a university.<\/li>\n<li>GWISE maintains a comprehensive list of fellowships available to scientists, many of which are open to people of all genders. This list and other resources can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gwise\/resources\/\" title=\"gwise fellowship resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>If you&#8217;re having a problem<\/h3>\n<p>Graduate school is hard. It&#8217;s normal to need some help once in a while. Below is a list of some of the places you may go if you need help. You should also feel free to contact the GSO directly at <a href=\"mailto:gso@bu.edu\" title=\"send gso an email\">gso@bu.edu<\/a> and we can help you find a resource the matches your needs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ombuds\/\" title=\"ombuds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office of the Ombuds<\/a>\u00a0is a safe place to have off-the-record conversations on issues related to life, work, or study at Boston University. Talking to the Ombuds can e a good first step if you have a concern and don&#8217;t know where to turn for help.<\/li>\n<li>BU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/shs\/behavioral\/\" title=\"behavioral medicine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Behavioral Medicine<\/a> offers free short-term counseling to full time students and other resources.<\/li>\n<li>BU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/disability\/\" title=\"disability services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office of Disability Services<\/a><\/li>\n<li>BU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/safety\/sexual-misconduct\/\" title=\"sexual misconduct policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sexual Misconduct Policy<\/a><\/li>\n<li>BU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/sarp\/\" title=\"sexual assault response and prevent\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sexual Assault Response and Prevention (SARP)<\/a>\u00a0<span>provides rapid, confidential, compassionate, supportive, and free-of-charge advocacy and assistance to BU students who have experienced a traumatic incident. This includes, but is not limited to, sexual assault, physical assault, interpersonal violence, and other crimes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/erc\/\" title=\"educational resource cender\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Educational Resource Center\u00a0(ERC)<\/a> is your academic support system; whether you want to practice your language skills with a native speaker, restructure an essay, or improve your study habits. They offer one-on-one and group academic skills sessions with peers and professionals, as well as offer a variety of workshops to faculty, student organizations, and various campus offices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Miscellaneous Resources<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/globalprograms\/hub\/\" title=\"international student hub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Student and Scholar Hub<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/careers\/\" title=\"center for career development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Career Development (CCD)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gwise\/\" title=\"gwise\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Graduate Women in Science and Engineering<\/a> (GWISE@BU) offers many excellent events and other resources.
