{"id":3290,"date":"2023-08-08T13:30:55","date_gmt":"2023-08-08T17:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gps\/?page_id=3290"},"modified":"2026-03-03T19:11:44","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T00:11:44","slug":"phd-on-tap","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/gps\/workshops-events\/phd-on-tap\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Minute Thesis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Welcome to the home of BU&#8217;s 3MT competition!<\/h2>\n<h3>What is 3MT?<\/h3>\n<p>Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an internationally celebrated program in which graduate students learn to share their work with non-specialist audiences in only three minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Participating doctoral students will practice their communicating skills in three workshops that lead up to a final competition on <strong>March 31st<\/strong>\u2014and the top three winners will receive prize money!<\/p>\n<a href='https:\/\/forms.office.com\/r\/7RDnrFdhrq\/' class='button button-secondary'>RSVP today!<\/a>\n<h3>Why participate?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Dig deep into the &#8220;why&#8221; behind your research and build\u2014or rediscover!\u2014your motivation.<\/li>\n<li>Share your work with students, faculty, and staff from across campus.<\/li>\n<li>Craft a strong pitch to prepare for interviews and networking conversations.<\/li>\n<li>The top three winners will receive prize money! (1st place: $1000; 2nd place: $500; Crowd choice: $500).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Eligibility requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Must be enrolled in a <strong>doctoral program<\/strong> <strong>at BU<\/strong> (PhD, EdD, MD\/PhD, DMA, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Must be <strong>advanced<\/strong> (completed required coursework and passed doctoral candidacy requirements)<\/li>\n<li>Must have <strong>data\/results<\/strong> for the presented project (including IRB approval or IRB exemption if relevant)<\/li>\n<li>Must have <strong>prior advisor approval<\/strong> for participation<\/li>\n<li>Must have permission to share results in the 3MT competition from relevant collaborators<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol><\/ol>\n<h3>Participation requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Register<\/strong><strong> before February 20. <\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Registrations are currently CLOSED.
