Please consult the policy for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Guidance on how to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/globalprograms\/manage\/international-travel\/registry\/\">register<\/a>\u00a0your international travel plans with Global Programs for planning and emergency support;<\/li>\n<li>Restrictions on travel to\u00a0high-risk destinations\u00a0for undergraduates; and<\/li>\n<li>Requirements and minimum standards for\u00a0<a href=\"\/globalprograms\/global-activity-support\/health-insurance\/\">insurance and emergency evacuation coverage<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>High-Risk Destinations<\/h2>\n<p>High-risk destinations are defined by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/policies\/international-travel-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Travel Risk Policy<\/a> as:<\/p>\n<p>Countries, regions and\/or cities currently under an overall Level 3 or Level 4 Travel Advisory issued by the U.S. Department of State. Boston University may also apply the designation \u201cHigh-Risk\u201d to locations that pose a specific health, safety or security concern as indicated by sources other than U.S. Department of State Travel Advisories, such as individual U.S. embassies or consulates, the Centers for Disease Control, insurers, or travel providers.<\/p>\n<h2>Undergraduate travel to High-Risk destinations<\/h2>\n<p>Undergraduate travel to High-Risk destinations is generally prohibited for undergraduates, unless approved for an exemption by the University&#8217;s Global Travel Risk Assessment Committee (GTRAC) <a href=\"\/globalprograms\/files\/2025\/09\/Petition-Form-Request-for-Exception-to-Travel-Restriction-v2023.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">petition process<\/a>.\u00a0 Successful petitioners may be required to undertake additional health, safety, and security precautions, schedule further training, sign special waivers, or acquire additional insurance coverage as conditions of approval.
