 Students should have knowledge of the following content standards taught during the first semester fo the course: the scientific study of life ( the scientific process, classification, etc), biochemistry (organic molecules, pH, etc), bonding, essential molecules, cell biology (structure and morphology), and cellular mechanics (enzymes, osmosis and diffusion, etc).
Description of New Content

 This activity is designed to review essential material in preparation for the midterm exam, so no new material is introduced.
Goals

 For students to review past material in a fun, friendly, competitive environment.
Materials Needed


 For our Jeopardy game, we used an LCD projected hooked up to a Smart Board, which allowed me to control the questions/answers by simply touching the board. If you do not have access to a Smart Board, just use an LCD projector to display the game from your computer (powerpoint application). The questions are provided below, but as they are in pdf form, you will need to download the jeopardy template from the web (e.g. www.graves.k12.ky.us/tech/jeopardy_instructions.htm)

Procedure

 

 

 

Opener: Divide students into groups of 5-6 and challenge them to earn the most points by correctly answering the Jeopardy questions. Perhaps an incentive (extra credit points on the midterm) will increase motivation to participate.

Development: Begin the game. Remind students that they must give their responses in the form of a question. It is also a good idea to have a single spokesperson from each group that is the only person allowed to answer the questions (discussion within the group is of course permitted). This will cut down on noise and confusion. Only allow a certain time frame (5 seconds?) once a group is called upon to give a correct answer. All wrong answers result in negative points. For Final Jeopardy, have students record their answers and wagers on paper and hand them to you after a specified time limit (30 seconds?).

Closure: Add up the points earned by each team following Final Jeopardy and announce the winners.

Evaluation

 Evaluation is not necessary - those who have studied will be rewarded if you decide to award extra points to the winners.
Extensions

 It would be very easy to add on to the questions already written to include other content taught, or to use this activity for another class level. Double Jeopardy templates are easy to find on the web as well.
