Our goal is to\u00a0train a\u00a0cadre of\u00a0medical professionals who will in turn educate others in their countries and\u00a0disseminate the benefits of their continued learning. For more information concerning these programs, please consult our <a href=\"\/ghc\/files\/2010\/09\/BUFMGHC_pamphlet_9_22_2010.pdf\">Pamphlet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Past\u00a0Projects:<\/h3>\n<h4>International Family Medicine Faculty Development Course<\/h4>\n<p>An 8-week program, the International Family Medicine Faculty Development\u00a0Course is a short-term US-based fellowship that offers\u00a0international physicians\u00a0specialized academic training.\u00a0Our\u00a0training module includes an individual needs assessment and\u00a0encompasses\u00a0aspects of primary care, academic and systems development, clinical and teaching observations, and applicable\u00a0customized project work with dedicated mentorship.<\/p>\n<p>Core curriculum covers six main topics:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Principles and Practice of Family Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Medical Education<\/li>\n<li>Clinical Practice<\/li>\n<li>Research<\/li>\n<li>Communication<\/li>\n<li>Leadership and Administration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The International Family Medicine\u00a0Faculty\u00a0Development\u00a0Course\u00a0is open to any international physician who is interested in learning about the tools necessary for the\u00a0development and implementation of the specialty of Family Medicine.<\/p>\n<h4>International Family Medicine Academic Fellowship Program<\/h4>\n<p>Boston University School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine and School of Public Health are proud to host the International Family Medicine Academic\u00a0Fellowship Program, a\u00a02-year US-based\u00a0Master\u2019s degree granting program.\u00a0This program prepares fellows for leadership roles in academic Family Medicine careers by promoting their skills in\u00a0research, teaching, leadership and management.<\/p>\n<p>These fellowships offer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Masters degree training in Science and Public Health, Clinical Investigation, and Education<\/li>\n<li>Focused development on general academic skills working in collaboration with U.S. fellows in Family Medicine and General Internal Medicine<\/li>\n<li>Dedicated mentoring and focus project on research, education, policy, or management\/leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The International Family Medicine\u00a0Academic Fellowship Program is\u00a0open to international physicians who are recommended by their home institutions and designated for leadership roles in Family Medicine education in their respective countries.\u00a0<em>We are\u00a0not\u00a0currently\u00a0offering this program\u00a0but hope to do so again in the future. If you are interested in being contacted when it reopens, please email Kristin Shaw, Senior Program Manager, at\u00a0keshaw@bu.edu<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Developing the Lesotho Primary Health Care Workforce: Nurse Clinicians and Family Medicine Physicians<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/ghc\/files\/2010\/10\/DSC00172.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/ghc\/files\/2010\/10\/DSC00172-636x477.jpg\" alt=\"DSC00172\" width=\"299\" height=\"224\" class=\" wp-image-1786 alignright\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ghc\/files\/2010\/10\/DSC00172-636x477.jpg 636w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ghc\/files\/2010\/10\/DSC00172.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This project enabled the Boston team to begin a process that will improve the quality and accessibility of affordable and sustainable primary care, increase the nation\u2019s capacity to respond to the burgeoning medical care demands of the HIV\/AIDS epidemic, and improve the recruitment and retention of nurses and physicians.\u00a0 A series of workshops and exchanges of health professionals between the U.S. and Lesotho took place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In addition to training programs in our host countries, the Collaborative is proud to offer fellowships and faculty development in the United States for international health-care providers.
