Speakers: Dr. Peter Rockers, Dr. Veronika Wirtz and Dr. Anne Christine Heerdegen. Bio: Dr. Peter Rockers is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health at the Boston University School of Public Health, where he is also the Director of the Global Health Program Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation certificate. His research is primarily concerned with evaluating the impacts of health system strengthening interventions and policies in low- and middle-income countries. Dr. Rockers is involved in several projects focused on access to medicines. He is Principle Investigator for the Access Observatory, a platform for public reporting on pharmaceutical industry-led access programs. Bio: Veronika J. Wirtz, is Professor of Global Health at the Boston University School of Public Health, where she is also Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center in Pharmaceutical Policy. Her research focuses on health system strengthening and program evaluations of medicines access and utilization. Her interest and expertise includes the role of the private sector in promoting equitable access and efficient use of medicines in low and middle income countries, medicines price analysis, generic medicines policies and access to medicines for non-communicable diseases. Between 2014 and 2016 she was the Co-Chair of The Lancet Commission on Essential Medicine Policies which published its report Essential Medicines for Universal Health Coverage in Fall 2016. She has worked as a technical advisor for various international organizations, among them the World Health Organization, the Pan American Health Organization, the World Bank, the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Alliance for Health Systems and Policy Research. She is a Visiting Professor of the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), Mexico, where she was a faculty member between 2005 and 2012. She received her training as a pharmacist from Albert-Ludwigs-University in Freiburg, Germany and her Master in Clinical Pharmacy and PhD from the University of London, UK. Bio: Anne Heerdegen is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Department of Global Health at the Boston University School of Public Health. She works with Dr. Peter C. Rockers and Dr. Veronika Wirtz on various projects related to pharmaceutical industry-led access initiatives. Anne holds a Master of Science in Public Health and a PhD in Epidemiology. Her PhD research focused on health system management and leadership in low- and middle-income countries.
