{"id":11328,"date":"2026-07-29T09:43:49","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T13:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/geddes\/?page_id=11328"},"modified":"2026-08-13T15:37:38","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T19:37:38","slug":"students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/geddes\/students\/","title":{"rendered":"Information for Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>This is an overview of services available to undergraduate students.\u00a0 The Geddes Center is located on the fifth floor of CAS, accessible only via the TSAI Center elevators.\u00a0 Our hours are listed at the bottom of this page.\u00a0 Most activities take place in CAS537 or nearby adjacent rooms.\u00a0 We welcome all students, you don&#8217;t need to be enrolled in a language course.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Film Viewing<\/h3>\n<p>Films are available on a first come, first serve basis.\u00a0 Advance reservations are not needed as there are generally multiple copies of films available.\u00a0 Films can be viewed individually or in small groups.\u00a0 Viewing rooms may be used for groups of three or more when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/geddes\/rooms\/\">available<\/a>.\u00a0 Films must be part of the Geddes collection or put on reserve at Geddes by the Krasker Film Library at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/library\/\">Mugar<\/a>; we cannot screen films that the university does not own.\u00a0 We can screen streaming films from <a href=\"https:\/\/bu.kanopy.com\/catalog\">Kanopy,<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalcampus.swankmp.net\/bu334689\/\">Swank<\/a><span>, and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/video-alexanderstreet-com.ezproxy.bu.edu\/\">Alexander Street<\/a> (and <a href=\"https:\/\/library.bu.edu\/az\/databases?t=19783\">others<\/a>), however due to licensing restrictions we cannot stream from Netflix or other commercial streaming platforms.\u00a0 Our catalog of holdings is available at <a href=\"http:\/\/glc.bu.edu\/\">http:\/\/glc.bu.edu\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Lab<\/h3>\n<p>There are 20 Windows computers and 4 iMacs available in CAS537 with Adobe Creative Cloud.\u00a0 Printing is available using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/tech\/services\/cccs\/printing\/myprint\/\">MyPrint<\/a> printer in the lab.\u00a0 At times classes may be using the computer lab for exams or other projects.\u00a0 During these times, any available computers may be used, however please be respectful of the class taking place and keep any noise level to a minimum.<\/p>\n<p>Video carrels are available for students wishing to view Geddes films individually or in pairs.<\/p>\n<p>There are various study carrels, collaboration tables, white\/glass boards available in the lab on a first come first serve basis.<\/p>\n<h3>Poppin&#8217; Pod<\/h3>\n<p>The Poppin Pod may be used for Podcasting assignments, or just as a quiet space for activities such as Zoom calls.\u00a0 Reservations for the Pod may be made in advance using the form <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/geddes\/facilities\/glcpod\/\">located here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span>The Pod contains a Zoom Podtrak P2 digital recorder as well as headsets and microphones for recording.\u00a0 Recordings are made using the recorder via an SD card, which then can be transferred to a personal laptop or to cloud services using the lab computers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/zoomcorp.com\/media\/documents\/E_P2_QuickTour.pdf\">View the P2 recorder quickstart guide here (PDF)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Podcasting Assignments<\/h3>\n<p>For individual assignments, please make use of the Poppin&#8217; Pod.\u00a0 For larger class projects, your instructor may require the use of the Geddes Audio Studio.\u00a0 Your instructor will provide you with a link to an online signup sheet to have an audio engineer assist with your recordings.\u00a0 We do not currently accept drop-ins for this space<\/p>\n<h3>Audio and Video Recording Equipment<\/h3>\n<p>Cinema and Media Studies students may borrow CIMS film equipment as described by the course syllabus.\u00a0 We do not loan equipment directly to students without an associated class project.\u00a0 if you wish to borrow equipment as part of a class project, please ask your instructor to make arrangements directly with the Center.<\/p>\n<h3>Classrooms and other Meeting Rooms<\/h3>\n<p>Student groups registered with the Student Activities Office may reserve Geddes classrooms using 25Live, the university&#8217;s online events booking system.\u00a0 For spaces not listed in 25Live, please contact geddes@bu.edu.\u00a0 Availability can be viewed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/geddes\/rooms\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Lounge<\/h3>\n<p>The lounge hosts a TEEM collaboration table with a monitor for group collaboration.\u00a0 Additionally, there are tables and chairs for individual and group study.<\/p>\n<h3>Hours<\/h3>\n<p>The Lab, Viewing Rooms, Classrooms and Meeting Spaces are open:<\/p>\n<p>Monday: 9am-9pm<br \/>\nTuesday: 9am-6pm<br \/>\nWednesday: 9am-9pm<br \/>\nThursday: 9am-9pm<br \/>\nFriday: 9am-6pm<br \/>\nSaturday-Sunday: Closed<br \/>\nClosed on university holidays.<\/p>\n<p>The lounge is open Monday-Thursday 7am-9pm;
