The Global Economic Governance Initiative <\/strong>(GEGI) advances policy-oriented research to enable the international financial architecture to foster financial stability, human well-being and environmental sustainability across the globe through peer reviewed research, policy engagement, and strategic communications.<\/span><\/p>\n

With just six years until 2030, there is an urgent need to unlock investments and mobilize affordable climate finance in a fiscally sound and financially stable manner.<\/p>\n

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has a vital role to play, and proposals to reform the international financial architecture \u2013 whether the\u00a0<\/span>Bridgetown Initiative<\/a>, the\u00a0<\/span>Paris Pact for People and Planet<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>or the\u00a0<\/span>Nairobi Declaration<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 all involve reforms to the IMF.<\/p>\n

Yet, despite notable recent strides, ambition to integrate climate at the Fund\u00a0<\/span>remains limited<\/a>. A transformation of the IMF is necessary for aligning the international financial architecture with shared development and climate change goals.<\/p>\n

A new report<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>from the Task Force on Climate, Development and the International Financial Architecture<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>pushes for a faster and deeper evolution of the IMF that is both development-centered in its approach to climate and embraces an investment push as a priority goal. It presents three core policy recommendations animated by an\u00a0<\/span>IMF 2030 Action Agenda<\/strong><\/a>, comprised of concrete reforms to be implemented over the next 12 months.<\/p>\nRead the Report<\/a>\nRead the Blog<\/a>\n
