Chantal Thomas – Trade Openness as a Development Strategy

Chantal Thomas, professor of Law at Cornell University, spoke to a small group of the Boston University community on September 26 about Trade Openness as a Development Strategy, using Africa as a case study. She used data to illustrate that although other developing countries have seen poverty reduction through increased trade liberalization, this is not the case for developing Africa. In fact, poverty reduction is stagnating even as trade liberalization has increased.
