Lamin Barrow

Alumni Advisory Board Member, GRS ’89

Lamin G. Barrow (GRS ’89) is a member of the Boston University Global Development Policy Center Alumni Advisory Board. He is the Director General of the Nigeria Country Office for the African Development Bank (ADB). Prior to his appointment, he was Acting Senior Director, Nigeria Country Office, in the Regional Development, Integration & Business Development Vice Presidency at the ADB, which he joined in 2000. 

Mr. Barrow brings extensive knowledge and experience on development policy, infrastructure financing and regional integration issues. Among other things, he has chaired the Development Partners Group in Ethiopia and led the Bank’s work in structuring and preparing bankable infrastructure projects in many Regional Member Countries.

Since joining the African Development Bank in 2000, Mr. Barrow has worked in various capacities, including Manager of the cabinet office of The President, Resident Representative in Ethiopia and Task Manager of the Bank’s NEPAD Infrastructure Project Preparation Facility.

Prior to that, he worked at the National Investment Board, The Gambia where he occupied several positions, including as Head of the Project Development Unit and Division Manager, Export Promotion. He also served as Principal Economist (1991-1992) at the Policy Analysis Unit in the Office of The President, The Gambia, before joining the Company for Habitat & Housing in Africa (Shelter-Afrique) where he held several positions between 1994 and 2000.

Born in The Gambia, Mr. Barrow holds a Master of Arts in Economic Policy degree from Boston University (USA) and a B.Sc (Upper Second Class Honors) degree from the University of Ibadan (Nigeria). He is an alumnus of Executive Programs of Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA, and Queens University, Canada.
