Its licensed professionals offer <strong>free<\/strong> and <strong>confidential<\/strong> counseling, consultation, and referrals for a broad range of work-related and personal concerns.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Who is eligible to use the FSAO?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">All BU full and part-time faculty, staff, and their household family members (including significant others and adult children) are eligible to utilize FSAO services. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">What happens at the FSAO?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">Employees and family members meet with a licensed counselor who will help them identify concerns and offer support and strategies. FSAO staff may also assist with providing resources and referrals including for ongoing behavioral health treatment. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Is there a cost to use the FSAO<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">No, the FSAO is offered as an employee benefit, free of charge.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Are the FSAO services confidential?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The FSAO carefully adheres to professional and legal standards of ethics and confidentiality. Our staff will not disclose your use of FSAO services or discuss your situation with anyone outside of the FSAO without your expressed, written permission. The only exceptions are those mandated by the law which require the FSAO to report information to the appropriate person or agency:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you are in imminent danger of harming yourself or others<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If there is evidence of neglect or abuse of a child, elder or disabled person<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If a court of law issues a legitimate court order or subpoena<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The office maintains a secure records management system which is not part of or accessible by any other University or Medical Center record system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The FSAO is committed to creating a safe space where you can get help with life\u2019s challenges.\u00a0 If you have any questions about confidentiality, please contact us to discuss them. <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">How do I make an appointment with the FSAO?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"> You can request an appointment with a FSAO counselor by calling the office at 617-353-5381 or using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/fsao\/contact\/\">Contact Us<\/a> form on our website.\u00a0 Appointments are available in person in our offices on the Charles River and Medical campuses as well as virtually on our HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform or by telephone.\u00a0 The office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30-5 pm.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">What can I expect when I contact the FSAO?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">We will request some basic information about you, your concerns, your availability, and the urgency of your need.\u00a0 If you schedule an appointment, we will send you our intake form and confidentiality statement.\u00a0 The initial appointment will be scheduled with a licensed, professional counselor who will ask questions to better understand your concern and assist you in determining the appropriate next steps. Appointments typically last between 30 and 45 minutes. The meeting is confidential and may include referrals to other health care providers or community resources.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Can I use the FSAO if I don't have a specific issue to discuss?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">Yes, the FSAO can be used for a variety of reasons, including just wanting to talk to someone about a problem or to get advice on a situation. FSAO counselors are trained to listen and provide support for any issue that may be affecting your well-being.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Is there a limit to the number of FSAO sessions I can have?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">Yes, the number of FSAO sessions available is 6 per issue per year.\u00a0 This means you may receive services more than once during the year for different issues such as 3 sessions for a personal concern and 6 sessions for a workplace concern.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">What happens if I need more help than the FSAO can provide?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">If you need additional support beyond what the FSAO can provide, your counselor may refer you to behavioral health providers in the community. These providers can offer more intensive and specialized services, including psychotherapy and medication management. Your counselor can help you find a provider who is a good fit for your needs and insurance coverage.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">How do I make a referral to the FSAO?<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\">Colleagues, managers, and other service providers at BU sometimes want to recommend that an employee reach out to the FSAO for confidential assistance.
