Our goal is to work with you to match your research and programs with foundations\u2019 charitable goals, which are often to support pilot and proof-of-concept projects and high-risk research that may not be attractive to more traditional funders, such as the NIH and the NSF.<\/p>\n<h3>How We Partner With BU&#8217;s Faculty and Academic Leadership<\/h3>\n<h4>Identify: Find Prospects and Connections<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Discover<\/strong> funding opportunities to support faculty programs, research, and career development (for example, young investigator awards), as well as University priorities<br \/>\n<strong>Leverage<\/strong> connections among BU leaders, faculty, alumni, friends, and foundation contacts<br \/>\n<strong>Stay abreast<\/strong> of trends in advanced research and higher-education fundraising to identify new sources of support<br \/>\n<strong>Alert<\/strong> and remind PIs about upcoming, well-aligned funding opportunities<br \/>\n<strong>Provide<\/strong> faculty with workshops, tools, training, and individual consultations<\/p>\n<h4>Cultivate: Build the Relationship<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Develop<\/strong> <strong>strategies<\/strong> to approach new or past institutional donors<br \/>\n<strong>Introduce<\/strong> <strong>projects<\/strong> to relevant foundation program officers and directors<br \/>\n<strong>Provide<\/strong> <strong>briefings<\/strong> and prospect research in advance of meetings with potential donors<br \/>\n<strong>Host<\/strong> tours for donors and coordinate in-person meetings, site visits, or conference calls with PIs<br \/>\n<strong>Invite<\/strong> prospective donors to events and other engagement opportunities<\/p>\n<h4>Apply: Prepare and Submit the Proposal<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Draft<\/strong> and\/or edit, especially for clarity, consistency, and responsiveness to guidelines and donor interests<br \/>\n<strong>Summarize<\/strong> instructions and required components<br \/>\n<strong>Interface<\/strong> with foundation staff as questions arise<br \/>\n<strong>Ensure<\/strong> submission proceeds in a timely fashion<br \/>\n<strong>Draft<\/strong> customized cover letters and letters of support, commitment, or recommendation<br \/>\n<strong>Provide<\/strong> application attachments when needed (for example, proof of nonprofit status, institutional budgets)<br \/>\n<strong>Serve<\/strong> as liaison with Sponsored Programs to secure approval for submissions<br \/>\n<strong>Connect<\/strong> applicants with other BU faculty who have submitted successful proposals to foundations<br \/>\n<strong>Solicit<\/strong> feedback from foundations when applications are declined<\/p>\n<h4>Steward: Thank the Donor<\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Acknowledge<\/strong> awards with personalized letters from BU leadership<br \/>\n<strong>Recognize<\/strong> donors through events, social media, and articles in BU publications<br \/>\n<strong>Handle<\/strong> logistics for check presentations and site visits<br \/>\n<strong>Remind<\/strong> PIs about reporting requirements and deadlines and help prepare reports<\/p>\n<h5>More information can be found on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/foundations\/faqs\/\">FAQ page<\/a>.
