{"id":158,"date":"2024-05-29T22:31:56","date_gmt":"2024-05-30T02:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/foundations\/?page_id=158"},"modified":"2024-07-17T13:45:03","modified_gmt":"2024-07-17T17:45:03","slug":"need-to-know","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/foundations\/need-to-know\/","title":{"rendered":"Need to Know"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>When you are submitting\u2026<\/h2>\n<p>Key institutional information for grant proposals, including up-to-date fringe and indirect cost rates, is posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/funding-grants\/grant-management-tools-resources\/institutional-numbers-and-rates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Office of Research website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Know BU\u2019s policy on timing of proposals being submitted to Sponsored Programs for review.<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 \u00a05 days before the deadline<\/strong>: final budget, subcontract details, signed Proposal Summary Form<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 \u00a03 days before the deadline<\/strong>: final technical components (Research Plan, Abstract, Aims, etc.)<\/p>\n<h2>Key offices supporting faculty research<\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Office of Research<\/a>\u202frepresents the University to key stakeholders in government, industry, and foundations, leading the development and implementation of effective policies and procedures to streamline and manage research.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/profile\/sponsored-programs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sponsored Programs<\/a> is responsible for ensuring that all research proposals and awards adhere to BU\u2019s policies and meet obligations to external sponsors.\u202f\u202fWhile Foundation Relations should be contacted before a foundation is solicited, Sponsored Program must be contacted, and its processes followed, when a BU investigator is submitting a proposal, regardless of the funder.\u202f Additional information for Sponsored Programs can be found on the Office of Research website.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/federal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Federal Relations<\/a>\u202fconnects faculty with federal funding opportunities,\u202fshares Boston University\u2019s expertise\u202fwith policymakers in Washington, D.C., and works with\u202fnational educational and scientific organizations.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Industry Engagement<\/a> helps BU researchers collaborate with industry by offering individualized consultation and assistance to form partnerships that help develop and move innovations from the lab to become products, services, or businesses to benefit society.<\/p>\n<p>For investigators at the medical school, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bumc.bu.edu\/proposaldevelopment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Proposal Development<\/a> provides a wide range of support, including budget creation, sub-grant setup, interpreting funder guidelines, and securing Sponsored Programs\u2019 approval to submit applications, as well as guiding junior and ESL faculty on developing and writing their scientific narratives.<\/p>\n<h2>Centrally managed foundations<\/h2>\n<p>Per the request of the foundation&#8217;s leadership or the university&#8217;s, these foundations should only be approached through or with clearance from Foundation Relations.
