PDP credit courses are a great way for students to schedule a workout into their academic weeks or balance their course loads. From swimming to group fitness to dance, BU offers something for everyone! Classes generally meet once or twice a week, for varying times. Most are held in BU’s state-of-the-art Fitness and Recreation Center.

PDP FT 112 Basic Weight Training Principles

Sprg ‘23

A course in the principles and methods of strength training using machines and free-weight exercises. Learn how to safely develop an exercise program to improve muscle strength, endurance, and body composition with weight training movements.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 115 Basic Conditioning

Exercise form and function will be reviewed in depth to allow participants to develop a balanced total-body fitness program. Weekly workouts will include a warm-up, strength training movements,cardiovascular components, and flexibility exercises.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 125 Principles of High Intensity Interval Training

Sprg ‘23

This class is a mix of high intensity interval training (HIIT) exercises, to increase participants overall fitness capacity. All workouts will be scaled to individual fitness levels to safely achieve great results.   [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 130 Boxing

Sprg ‘23

Learn boxing basics starting with stance and hand placement and proceeding to the jab, the straight right, hooks, and uppercuts. Learn how to slip, duck, and parry a jab; practice counter-punches and footwork. Get a great aerobic workout and walk away with improved self-confidence.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 131 Boot Camp

Sprg ‘23

A comprehensive course in real deal fitness. Work on cardio-respiratory muscular strength and endurance and flexibility. This is a tried and true workout consisting of running drills, abdominal work, upper body strength, and endurance exercises and walking with weight. Basic self-defense skills from boxing, wrestling, Jiu-Jitsu and American Combat Karate will also be covered. Get a solid base of physical and mental training to get in superior condition that will help in all sports and outdoor activities. This will be a high level class working with all ability levels.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 132 Kickboxing

Sprg ‘23

This combination of American and traditional Thai kickboxing is a full-body, high-intensity workout that challenges muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Traditional Muay Thai uses fists, elbows, knees, and feet as tools of self-defense. Focus pads and kicking shields are used to teach correct punching and kicking techniques.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 140 Marathon Training

Sprg ‘23

This course will provide the knowledge and physical foundation needed for students to prepare for completion of a 5K, 10K, marathon or marathon. Content will cover topics such as nutrition guidelines for distance running, injury prevention, creating and evaluating a training plan, maintaining and monitoring a training log, and planning of group runs. Information on obtaining an official entry into the Boston Marathon through fundraising efforts will be provided. The course will meet once a week.  [ 1 cr. ]

PDP FT 306 Personal Trainer Certification Prep

This class is designed to prepare you to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT) Certified Personal Trainer Examination. You will learn how to design safe and effective exercise programs and provide the guidance to help clients achieve their personal health and fitness goals. The course includes practical and theoretical seminars in basic anatomy and exercise physiology, fitness evaluation, exercise program design, nutrition, teaching methods, and safety issues. Extra class fee includes text and test prep materials. 2 cr. Either sem.  [ 2 cr. ]

PDP FT 308 Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist Certification Prep

Sprg ‘23

This class is designed to prepare you to take the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS). You will learn how to apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. Course includes practical and theoretical seminars in anatomy, exercise physiology, athletic testing, advance strength training principles, sports nutrition, and injury prevention. Extra class fee includes text and test prep materials.  [ 2 cr. ]
